Supported by the DAAD and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research
The Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz offers a Double Master's Option in the Master's programme Politics and Public Administration in cooperation with the Faculty of Social Sciences at the Charles-University Prague. Besides the MA degree from Konstanz, students can decide between programmes in "MA in International Security Studies (MISS)" or "MA in International Relations (MAIN)" from Charles University.
The degree programme offers three students, interested in the fields of international relations, international conflict-management and international administration, the possibility of spending one year at each university. Through well-founded training in political science research methods, students gain analytical skills in order to answer these and other political-scientific questions.
Students profit from ideal conditions at both universities, which pave the way for successful and enriching studies: personal consultation, small classes, strong connection between research and education, outstanding libraries and international surroundings. Besides the studies, the cities Prague and Konstanz offer a broad range of activities due to their unique location: whether Lake Constance, mountains or the cultural offerings of the vibrant Czech capital. Both cities offer a variety of possibilities to explore new facets of life.
The combination of these two departments, with international reputation in terms of research and education, provides the students with an ideal preparation for a prospective conferral of a doctorate. In this respect, students have the possibility to get involved in research projects. This can be regarded as an excellent stepping stone into a scientific career.
The international focus and high quality of education prepares the students in an optimal way for a national or international career – be it in either the public or private sector. Students will be especially qualified for occupations in the field of Czech-German cooperation.
Further, the alumni-network of the University of Konstanz facilitates the launching of your career in international organizations, national governments and administration, non-governmental organizations or the private sector. Many personal contacts to former students of the University of Konstanz who are working at all levels of the institutions, contribute to this aim.
Fields of Specialization
Students can choose one of two fields of specialization:
Mainly English, it is possible to choose elective courses in German
The final thesis is written in English and is supervised by lecturers from both institutions. If the second year is spent in Prague, please note that the final thesis is usually longer than a final thesis written in Germany. The topic of the thesis needs to be registered at Charles University before the Christmas break.
