The European Masters in Public Administration (EMPA) Network

New Membership since 2022

In 2022, the Department of Politics and Public Administration joined the EMPA Network after its members uninamously voted for the acceptence of membership at the Annual Network Meeting in Belfast.

The consortium established in 1990-91 functions as an exchange framework for master's programmes in the area of public administration all over Europe. It fosters student and staff exchange as well as joint research and teaching activities. Find out more about its history here.

Students who spend at least of semester at one of the EMPA partner universities receive the EMPA certificate to recognise their mobility. They are additionally eligible to be nominated for the Frank Delmartino Thesis Prize: The prize established to conserve the heritage of the academic contribution of Prof. Dr. Frank Delmartino, one of the founding fathers of European integration studies at KU Leuven as well as of the European Public Administration Network is annually awarded the best and most original thesis of a Master’s student in the field of public administration.

By joining EMPA, the department emphasises the relevance of expanding exchange opportunities not only in political science but equally in public administration.

Annual Network Meetings

The European Masters in Public Administration Network has developed an original and multilateral exchange programme for students and scholars based on the principles of interconnectedness and mutualisation of knowledge and experience. It groups together the leading European universities in the areas of comparative public administration and public policies in a cutting edge programme.
Participating in EMPA is a unique experience to explore multiple ways to address the challenges of an evolutionary public administration and get the recognition of a prestigious university. Finally, you will become part of a wider EMPA community of alumni, connected to academics, students and friends across the world and participate in our effort to bring the European civil servants together!
