Multiple media report on study by Christian Breunig on the representativeness of the Bundestag

In his study, Prof. Dr. Christian Breunig examines how women, migrants and workers are represented in the German Bundestag. The exciting study caused reputation in the national as well as in the international media.

As part of the Cluster of Excellence "The Politics of Inequality", a research group led by Prof. Dr. Christian Breunig together with colleagues from the University of Basel, the University of Geneva and the University of Stuttgart investigated the representation of women, migrants and workers in the German Bundestag. In addition to the descriptive representation of a group's share in the Bundestag, the team used 40,000 parliamentary questions to investigate whether members of parliament who belong to a group that is underrepresented in parliament stand up for the interests of their respective group. The results showed, that MPs from underrepresented groups are overall more active in the parliamentary process.

The study caused a national as well as an international media coverage. Several articles have already appeared in the Süddeutsche Zeitung, the taz, on phys.org, on abitur-und-studium.de, and in the Reutlinger General-Anzeiger  as well as a report from the mdr .
