We are looking for a research assistant!

The working group is looking for a research assistant for a comparative project on corruption in public procurement in Germany and Italy during the COVID crisis.

We are looking for a research assistant (BA or MA student) for a comparative project on corruption in public procurement in Germany and Italy during the COVID crisis—please see the detailed project description below. The duration would be from 1.10.2021 until April 2022, with a possibility for extension depending on how swiftly the data collection proceeds. We foresee between 30-60 hours of work per month depending on the project stage and the RA’s availability. The payment is 11.64 Euro/hour for master students and 10.01 Euro/hour for bachelor students. The project language is English.

The RA should perform most of the data collection and some data analysis for the German case study. Concretely:

  1. Analyze the legal rules in Germany related to public procurement, pre and post EC communication, based on a coding scheme of opportunites for corruption developed jointly with the research team
  2. Help us design and implement the survey in Germany (including identify bureaucrats and enterprises and contact them)
  3. Do the desk-based research (media analysis, fact collection) for the comparative case studies, and help us identify suitable interviewees

The RA should offer:

  1. Strong analytic skills and a passion for performing empirical research
  2. Strong skills in qualitative data collection and its documentation
  3. Interest in the topic and in performing an interdisciplinary analysis combining political and legal perspectives
  4. Ability to work and problem-solve independently, rigorously, reliably, and on time
