We are looking for a Research Assistant for a comparative project on customization of European fiscal policy in France, Germany and Italy under the supervision of our postdoctoral researcher Dr. Tiziano Zgaga (November-April).

We are looking for a Research Assistant (BA or MA student) for a comparative project on customization of European fiscal policy in France, Germany and Italy – please see the detailed project description here. While the project language is English, French language skills are a core requirement as the RA will be in charge of the French case study.

Project’s title: “EU versus core state powers: the customization of European Union fiscal policy”

Duration: from 1.11.2021 until April 2022, with a possibility for extension depending on the project’s need and on how swiftly the data collection proceeds

Workload: we foresee between 30-60 hours of work per month depending on the project stage and the RA’s availability.

Payment: 11.64 Euro/hour MA, 10.01 Euro/hour BA

Tasks:

The RA should perform most of the data collection and some data analysis for the France case study. Concretely, he/she should:

  • Collect the measures through which France transposed EU fiscal policy at national level
  • Analyze and code the transposition measures, based on a coding scheme developed by the research team
  • Perform desk-based research and semi-structured interviews for the French case study
  • Help us organizing data (e.g. in form of Excel tables)

We are looking for:

  • Very good knowledge of the French language
  • Strong analytic skills and a passion for performing empirical research
  • Strong skills in qualitative data collection and its documentation 
  • Interest in the topic and in working with texts
  • Ability to work and problem-solve independently, rigorously, reliably, and on time
