Call for Research Assistants (BA/ MA/ PhD)

The Chair of Public Administration at the University of Konstanz is seeking research assistants (RAs) for the research project “COVICORR: Comparing Mask Scandals in 27 European Union Member States”.

Led by Prof. Eva Thomann, COVICORR analyzes uncovered public sector corruption scandals related to the public procurement of personal protective equipment that occurred in the EU during the first year of the pandemic. The research assistants will conduct one or several country case studies in order to collect the qualitative data for the project. We are seeking RAs with very good language skills of the respective country, who are able to provide a written documentation of the relevant events in English language. The data is collected based on a prepared analytic coding / interview scheme and with the support and supervision of a senior researcher.

The tasks include:

  • Attend 1-day induction / training (on-line or in presence),
  • Comprehensive document analysis of relevant media coverage,
  • Identification of uncovered corruption case(s) in country,
  • Collection and content analysis of further documentation (such as reports, court documents, videos),
  • Conduct, transcribe and translate one or several expert interviews,
  • Continuous feedback loop with the project management,
  • Written country case study report in English language, based on the analytic scheme provided,
  • Availability to answer questions and provide additional information on the case until the end of the COVICORR project (February 2025).

We seek:

  • Research assistants at BA, MA or PhD level,
  • Willingness and talent to engage in qualitative data collection methods (document analysis, interviews),
  • Good written English skills, and
  • Very good (preferably native) language skills of one or several of the following countries: Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
