Call for Papers

8th Workshop on Conflict Dynamics

We are delighted to invite applications for the 8th Workshop on Conflict Dynamics, to be held on 9-10 October 2024 at the Technical University of Munich (TUM Science & Study Center Raitenhaslach).

The Workshop on Conflict Dynamics is independently organised by early career researchers for early career researchers working on armed conflict, broadly defined (including among others political violence, repression, and digital authoritarianism). Participants discuss and receive feedback from peers and senior researchers in an environment that fosters cooperation and support. We encourage applications from graduate students and junior scholars who want to present work in progress. Preference will be given to projects in their early stages (e.g., working papers or thesis chapters). During the two-day workshop, participants will engage with the work of their peers through discussion and feedback. We specifically invite applications from early career researchers with diverse backgrounds.

Since 2017, our workshop has provided an inclusive forum that enables extended and in-depth reflection on work in progress among early career researchers working on similar topics and with similar research interests. Each presenter has 15 minutes to present, 15 minutes for feedback from a designated discussant, and 15 minutes for feedback from the audience. The workshop also features additional events on topics of interest to conflict scholars and/or on professional development, as well as opportunities for networking with a workshop dinner on Wednesday evening. Further information, including programmes from our previous workshops, is available on our website: https://www.polver.uni-konstanz.de/conflict-dynamics.

Please submit your application (including title and abstract) through our website until 15 March 2024. We are very much looking forward to receiving your submission!

We will inform you about the outcome of your application by 26 April 2024. Participants will be requested to submit their draft paper/chapter two weeks in advance of the workshop (24 September 2024) to give the discussant time to prepare feedback and to allow all participants to read the papers.

Participants are responsible for planning and funding their own travel arrangements. A small contribution towards the costs of travel and accommodation may be available to support a limited number of scholars who can otherwise not afford travel and accommodation (please contact the organizers via email). There is no fee to participate in the workshop. Lunch, coffee breaks and the workshop dinner will be provided without charge. Please note that the workshop will take place at the TUM Science & Study Center Raitenhaslach (about 2,5 h by train from Munich; additional information is available on our website). Upon acceptance, the organisers will share further information about accommodation options in Raitenhaslach. Where required, letters of invitation for Visa purposes can be issued.

If you have any further questions about the workshop, please contact the organisers (confdynamics@gmail.com).
