Oleksandr Shevchuk

Oleksandr Shevchuk is a PhD candidate at the Graduate School of Behavioural Sciences (GSBS) and Department of Politics and Public Administration at the University of Konstanz. He is also a Doctoral Researcher in the Excellence Cluster project "From Bad to Worse? Financial Crises, Polarization, and Inequality" (Prof. Dr. Gerald Schneider, Prof. Dr. Almuth Scholl).

Oleksandr's research interests lie at the intersection of political economy and comparative politics. His current studies focus on the impact of financial crises (and anti-crises measures) on political polarization and economic inequality as well as ideological transformations under economic distress. In his dissertation Oleksandr also investigates the dynamics of social policy preferences in post-communist states and possible influences of ideological issue-polarization on populist views among the general public.

After completing his Bachelor's diploma in International Economics at the Kyiv National Economic University named after Vadym Hetman, he received a DAAD ERP scholarship and pursued an M.Sc. degree in Political Economy at the University of Konstanz from 2017 to 2019. During his master's studies he was a student research assistant in the project "EUSANCT: Does Supranational Coercion Work? Onset, Impact and Effectiveness of EU Sanctions" at the chair of Prof. Dr. Gerald Schneider and worked on financial and humanitarian side-effects of economic coercion.
