A Master's student in the department has won the Rutgers University Occasional Paper Series essay competition.

Marius Bug has won the essay competition of Rutgers University in the Occasional Paper Series. The essay "Democracy and Development" is a critical reflection of the academic debate on the importance of democratic institutions for economic development. From the modernisation theory of the post-war period to the discussions of political economy and the critique of the classical concept of development, one of the fundamental questions of development research is thus illuminated. Finally, the case study of India is used to demonstrate some basic tendencies of the context. The essay can be viewed on the Rutgers University website here.
