During the first part of the seminar students will be introduced to the main concepts and mechanisms the international community developed in response to threats to international peace and security, such as preventive diplomacy, mediation, peacemaking, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, post-conflict reconstruction. The second part of the seminar will take a closer look at the international organizations active in the realm of international security, managing and addressing the current security challenges such as the European Union, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, the United Nations and the African Union. The main idea is to familiarize the students with the distinctive character and growing influence of these organizations, their organizational structures and how they use the various tools to manage and address conflicts.
