York University is an extensive campus university on the outskirts of Toronto, about  50 minutes distance from downtown. Classes are held in English, a few courses are also offered in French. To apply, one has to pass the TOEFL test with a certain  grade. Three university places are allocated  through the ISAP-programme of the department.

Students will be admitted as undergraduates in the Department of Political Science. However, it is possible to take part in courses in other departments and even in graduate courses, by agreement. In spite of this, one cannot  complete a degree at York. A full course load (4 courses per semester) must be completed.

The fall term starts early in September and lasts till December, the winter term starts in early January and lasts till mid April. Afterwards it is possible to start again in Konstanz during the summer term, starting in early April. During or after their studies, students can take part in a paid practical course at the Canadian Center for German and European Studies.
