Silja Häusermann is a Junior Professor at the University of Konstanz.

She studied political science at the University of Geneva and holds an MPA from the Graduate Institute of Administrative Studies in Lausanne. After defending her Ph.D. at the University of Zurich in 2007, she was a senior researcher at the same university before coming to Konstanz. Silja Häusermann was also a visiting fellow at Harvard University in 2006 and a Max Weber fellow at the European University Institute in Florence in 2008/9. Her Ph.D. thesis on the adaptation of continental pension regimes to post-industrial risk structures was awarded the ECPR Jean Blondel Prize, as well as the Ernst B. Haas Prize by the European Politics and Society section of the American Political Science Association.

Silja Häusermann’s research interests are in comparative politics and comparative political economy. More specifically, her current work deals with electoral and party system change and their impact on distributive policies in advanced post-industrial democracies, with the dualization of welfare states and labor markets, with changing conflict dimensions in welfare state policy-making, and with public opinion in social policy reforms.

She is the author of "The Politics of Welfare Reform in Continental Europe. Modernization in Hard Times" (Cambridge University Press, 2010), and has published in journals such as the European Journal of Political Research, Socio-Economic Review, European Societies, the Journal of European Social Policy and the Journal of European Public Policy.
